SUSTAINABILITY
Luna Park Venues maintains a sustainable approach to the operation of our 12 iconic event and function spaces. Our commitment to reducing resource consumption, improving waste disposal, and reducing waste creation and greenhouse gases are paramount to our operations.
Our sustainable operation starts with the setup of the venues themselves – our venues have been adapted to reduce energy wastage, as well as the frequency of transportation during the event set-up process. The Air Condition systems in all of our venues are programmed to run around function or event timings only. As a consequence, less power is used saving on both cost and wastage. Meanwhile. our supplier Micro-hire have installed permanent AV and Sound equipment into our venue rooms. As a consequence, frequent bump in and out is not required, allowing event setups to run smoothly and reducing the need for equipment transportation by trucks to and from warehouses to our venues. All venue lighting is LED – using significantly less energy and maintaining a longer lifetime than other lighting types, reducing the frequency of their replacement.
The next crucial part of running a sustainable function is packaging and material use. All our functions use glassware and tablewear, which is washed in commercial dishwashers, clean, and ready to use for the next event or function. All glass bottles from both Luna Park Functions and Events are collected are compacted in a glass crusher, maximizing space and reducing the amount of transportation and trips needed to transport to recycling facilities. The less space required to transport glass recycling, the smaller and the less truck needed on the road – creating a positive flow-on effect in reducing petrol consumption. Up to 600kg of glass can be recovered each month. In the amusement park, eco-friendly bio-degradable bamboo packaging and cutely is used as we have moved away from single-use plastics.
Once the event or function has finished our waste management policies and methods are key to reducing unnecessary food wastage and essential to optimizing the energy potential derived from food waste. Luna Park’s ORCA machine can process 25 pounds of food waste per hour – it can divert up to 95 tons of food waste per year from landfill. ORCA uses mostly air, along with water and microbiology to turn food waste into an environmentally safe liquid that goes down the drain and is disposed of using existing sanitary sewer infrastructure. We also reclaim methane that is released from our landfill waste and transport it via trains, where the energy is then used to contribute to powering Goulburn, NSW. We are proud to work with OzHarvest, one of Australia’s leading food rescue organisations in reducing food wastage. We donate leftover and unused food products to OzHarvest, which are then distributed and circulated to a wide range of local charities.

Venue Lighting
All venue house lighting has been converted to LED which use significantly less energy than other forms of lighting – as their energy is used solely to create light instead of both heat and light. LED also have a longer life-time, reducing the frequency of their replacement.
Disposable Plates and Cutlery
We have moved away from single use plastic packaging and cutlery to ecofriendly bio-gradable bamboo products. Due to our proximity to the beautiful Sydney Harbour, we place high significance on protecting the local landscape and wildlife, whilst significantly reducing the amount of plastic in circulation.
Polycarbonate Cups
Re-usable Polycarbonate cups are used on the midway events instead of single-use plastic cups. These are then washed as per all glassware and re-used, significantly reducing the amount of plastic waste at large events.
